학력

니키차 가브리치 의학박사는 자그레브 의학대학교를 졸업했다. 이후 크로아티아 안과의사계의 원로인 크레쉬미르 추파크(Krešimir Čupak)의 멘토쉽 하에 Rebro 종합병원에서 전문의 수련을 마쳤고, 같은 시기인 1988년 “백내장 수술 후 합병증 조기진단에 관한 컴퓨터화된 모니터링”이라는 논문을 통해 석사학위를 취득했다. 1997년에는 례르카 페트리노비치(Ljerka Henč-Petrinović)교수의 지도 하에 “토끼와 인간의 각막이식 저장의 비교분석 - 첫 번째 크로아티아 안구은행 형성에 대한 기여” 라는 논문을 발표하며 박사학위를 취득했다. 2000년에는 리예카 의과대학교의 조교수가 되었고 2009년 정교수 직위를 취득했다. 기타 일본, 독일, 영국, 미국, 러시아, 그리고 스위스의 명망있는 병원들에서 전안부 수술 수련과정을 거쳤다. 

업무분야
 

니키차 가브리치 교수는 전안부에 대한 수술에 특화되어있고 현재까지 약 40,000건 이상의 백내장 수술, 녹내장 수술, 굴절률 교정 수술, 각막이식, 사시 교정술 등을 집도했다. 또한 러시아의 Fyodorov병원 등의 명망있는 병원에서의 경력을 포함, 세계 17개 국, 50개 이상의 수술실에서 수술을 경력을 쌓아왔다. 그는 안과전문의로서의 경력은 물론 자그레브에 위치한 종합병원인 스베티 두(Sveti Duh)의 병원장 직을 수행하기도 했다. 크로아티아 최초로 레이저 시력교정 수술을 시행한 첫 번째 안과의사이며 라이온스 크로아티아 안구병원의 설립자이자 회장이다.

1998년에는 동남유럽권을 대표하는 사립 안과병원으로 빠르게 성장한 Svjetlost병원을 설립했다. Svjetlost병원에서 그는 세계적 수준의 메디컬 센터들을 모델 삼아 안과학과 관련한 최신 경향을 소개함은 물론 광범위한 분야의 수술절차를 진행할 수 있는 국내외 최고의 의료진 팀을 구성해왔다. 1988년 부터 2008년 까지 Alcon사의 백내장 수술 관련 동남유럽을 담당하는 교육의원으로 활동했고 2008년 부터는 미국 AMO사의 백내장 및 굴절률 수술 담당 교육의원으로 재임하며 슬로베니아, 오스트리아, 보스니아, 이탈리아, 폴란드, 러시아 등의 나라를 담당하고 있다.

현재 니키차 가브리치 박사는 크로아티아 최초의 사립대학병원인 안과전문병원 Svjetlost의 대표원장으로서 해당 병원을 세계적인 인지도를 갖춘 브랜드로 성장시켰다. Svjetlost병원은 현재 자그레브, 스플리트, 사라예보 및 바냐루카에 지점을 두고 있다.

크로아티아 경영인들에게 주어지는 상인 Cicero 상을 수상했고, 2011년에는 남동유럽 올해의 경영인 상을 수상했다. 이 외에도 국내외의 과학 및 전문분야에 대한 수백건의 학술회의를 주최해오고 있다.

 

신 의료기술의 도입
 

니키차 가브리치 박사는 크로아티아 내에서 최초로 레이저 시력교정수술을 집도함은 물론 크로아티아 의료계에 새로운 수술기법들을 끊임없이 도입해왔다. (초음파 백내장 수술, 양막이식술, 인공수정체의 고랑고정술, 어린이 대상 안내렌즈 삽입을 통한 백내장 수술 등) 또한 각막이식 약물의 프로모션을 담당하는 책임자이자 크로아티아 첫 번째 안구조직은행, 라이온스 크로아티아 안구은행의 설립자이기도 하며, 기술적 공조와 헌신을 통해 리예카, 오시예크, 스플리트에 추가 안구은행을 설립에 기여했다.

연구 및 저술활동
 

니키차 가브리치 박사는 국내외 저널에 400건 이상의 과학 및 전문분야에 대한 저술활동을 해왔다. 21건의 논문이 관련 데이터베이스 등재되어 있고, 21개의 챕터, 5권의 저서 및 300건의 요약초록 등을 저술했다.

니키차 가브리치 박사는 크로아티아 백내장굴절수술학회의 창립자이자 회장이다. 또한 유럽 백내장굴절수술학회(ESCRS), 유럽안구은행협회(EEBA), 유럽안과학회(SOE) 및 남동유럽안과학회(SEEOS)의 임원이다. 크로아티아 의사회, 크로아티아 안과의사회, 미국 안과학회, 크로아티아 의학회, 국제시력안과연구협회(ARVO), 전안부질환학회, 미국백내장굴절수술학회의 정회원으로 활발한 활동을 하고 있다.
