Education

Doctor Bohač graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb and completed specialization in ophthalmology under the mentorship of Professor Nikica Gabrić, PhD. Her training in the field of refractive surgery began under the mentorship of Professor Gabrić and by additional trainings in London, Zurich, Barcelona, ​​Cologne and Strasbourg.

Regarding the scientific education, Doctor  Bohač completed the postgraduate study of Biomedicine and Health at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb. In April 2017 she completed doctoral dissertation on: "Comparison of mechanical microkeratome and femtosecond lasers" and obtained PhD. In 2021 inaugural lecture for the election to the scientific-teaching title of assistant professor at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka was held, with the topic of: ''Refraction surgery of the cornea"'.

Work area

Maja Bohač, MD, PhD is specialized in refractive surgery. Within the Department of Refractive Surgery, she is responsible for leading a team of 10 refractive surgeons and introduction of new technologies in the field of laser refractive surgery for the purpose of further improvement of results. She is specialized in laser surgeries on complicated cases - scars and damage of the cornea and earlier refractive surgeries of any kind.
 
Doctor Bohač, PhD has so far performed more than 30.000 laser surgeries.

The introduction of new methods

She is among first doctors in the region who have started to use femtosecond lasers. She is also one of the first doctors who performed laser removal of presbyopia and the first doctor in the region who performed a new type of laser vision correction SMILE. 

Publications and research

She has published 25 papers indexed in CC, of ​​which the most important papers are related to the treatment of high astigmatism with excimer lasers. 

Membership in associations

She is a member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and the Croatian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. She regularly participates as an active lecturer and educator at the annual meetings of those associations.
