Education

Doctor Ante Barišić completed Mathematical-physical and informatics high school "Aleksa Šantić" in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2000. Specialist exam in ophthalmology he passed in 2008 after completing the specialization in General Hospital "Sv. Duh“under the mentorship of Professor Doctor Iva Dekaris. He completed postgraduate studies in ophthalmology from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb in 2007. Postgraduate university studies, doctoral program in Biomedicine and Health Sciences at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Zagreb he completed in 2008 and in 2007 he defended a doctoral dissertation entitled "Analysis of the application of multifocal lenses for presbyopia with a transparent lens and patients after cataract surgery".

Doctor Ante Barišić, in 2015, was elected as an associate assistant at the Department of Ophthalmology, Faculty of Medicine, University of Rijeka.

From 2004 to 2011, he was an associate/researcher on the scientific project of the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of Croatia "Immunology of the eye" (0129010). 

Work area

Doctor Ante Barišić is a Head of the Department of Cataract Surgery, which is his area of ​​interest in ophthalmology. Under the mentorship of Professor Doctor Nikica Gabrić and Professor Doctor Iva Dekaris, he also passed trainings regarding cataracts in Prague (2008), Ljubljana (2007) and Budapest (2007). He spent a month on the scholarship of the European Society of Ophthalmology at the University Eye Clinic in Munich (2007). He completed "Visian ICL Surgical Certification Training" in 2012 in Milan. Other than cataract surgery, Doctor Barišić has extensive experience in refractive surgery of lens i.e. implantation of intraocular lens with the purpose of vision correction and solving wearing glasses. He also has experience in laser vision correction surgeries, transplantation of amniotic membranes and other anterior ocular segment surgeries.

Doctor Barišić, since 2009, is lecturer at the congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (Barcelona 2009, Budapest 2010, Paris 2010, Istanbul 2011, Vienna 2011, Milan 2012, Warsaw 2013, Amsterdam 2013, Ljubljana 2014, London 2014, Istanbul 2015). He is also a guest lecturer, moderator and chairman at many international conferences and meetings related to cataract surgery and refractive surgery lens (Vienna 2011, Freiburg 2011, Istanbul 2011, Portoroz 2012, Warsaw 2013, Dubrovnik and Zagreb, 2010 -2013, Ljubljana 2012 and 2013, Ohrid 2013, Belgrade 2013, Balaton 2014, Budva 2015, Katowice/Wisla 2016).

On XXX. Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Milan, he held the course "Verisyse/Phakic IOLs Veriflex Surgical Course". From 2010 to 2013, he is co-instructor of the Course for Cataract Surgery at conferences of Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery in Dubrovnik and Zagreb.

He is a reviewer in the British Journal of Ophthalmology, OMICS Publishing Group and BioMed Central.

Doctor Ante Barišić participated as a head/researcher in the "Extended Range of Vision IOL", European multicenter study conducted at the clinic Svjetlost in 2014 and "Extended depth of focus trifocal IOL" study conducted in 2015 also in the clinic Svjetlost.

Publications and research

Doctor Ante Barišić published a total of 11 publications in journals in international databases (including 8 papers in Current Contents, 3 papers in other databases). Previous papers have in the database ISI Web of Knowledge 25 citations, and in Scopus 34 citations. His scientific work is devoted to the research in the field of anterior ocular segment surgery, with an emphasis on cataract surgery and refractive surgery lens.
