Education

Doctor Ivana Mravičić graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb, with a scholarship from the City of Zagreb; she completed the specialization in ophthalmology in Clinical Hospital "Sveti Duh" under the mentorship of Professor Nikica Gabrić, a sub-specialization in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the clinic Svjetlost under the direction of Professor Doctor Oliver Ehrt. She attended trainings at the University Hospital Eppendorf in Hamburg on three occasions, one of those training she attended as a recipient of a DAAD scholarship. At the Clinical Hospital LMU of the University in Munich she studied on two occasions, one of them with SOE scholarship.

In science education Doctor Mravičić has master's degree and PhD from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zagreb. As a research associate and assistant professor she was elected at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Rijeka.

Work area

Assistant Professor Mravičić is specialized in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She performs surgeries of all types of strabismus in children and adults: esotropia, egzodeviations, vertical strabismus, paralytic strabismus, strabismus caused by disorders of the thyroid gland, strabismus occurred after injuries, fibrosis of the extraocular muscles.

She is also specialized in oculoplastic surgery and performs plastic surgery on the eye area. She carries out surgeries on entropy, ectropion, ptosis (lowered eyelid), blepharoplasty, tumors in the area around the eye. She gives Botox for medical and esthetic purposes. She carries out tear ducts surgeries. 

The introduction of new methods

She was the first in the region who introduced a new method of strabismus surgery: a method of splitting muscle in the treatment of strabismus, she operated muscle transposition, nystagmus, she performed lengthening muscles by the implantation of biological material. In clinical practice she introduced Cyklosporin in the treatment of severe vernal keratoconjunctivitis in children. 

Publications and research

She has published 12 papers in CC. She participated in writing several books one of which is a textbook of ophthalmology. She is a junior researcher on the project of the Croatian Ministry of Science and Technology in the field of cornea transplantation and a researcher on the project of the same ministry in the field of eye immunology. She is the main researcher on an international multicenter clinical study of introducing Cyklosporin in the treatment of severe vernal keratokonjunktivits in children.
