Education Brought Together Ophthalmologists from University Hospitals.
Svjetlost Eye Clinic proudly hosted a highly level SING IMT (Implantable Miniature Telescope) Training Day in collaboration with Samsara Vision.Dr. Juraj Kozak and Dr. Konstantinos Kakoulidis from Samsara Vision presented the latest concepts and surgical techniques of the SING IMT system.
This is a revolutionary lens implantation procedure intended for individuals with reduced visual capacity under certain indications, primarily macular degeneration and geographic atrophy, but also some other diseases that cause permanent vision loss.
First SING IMT Procedure Results in Croatia: Significant Vision Improvement in Patients
Professor Nikica Gabrić, MD, PhD, successfully performed all 10 SING IMT lens implantations carried out so far in the Republic of Croatia.
Assist Prof. Nataša Drača, PhD, MD, and Prof. Nikica Gabrić, MD, PhD, presented one-year follow-up results of the first 10 patients, with emphasis on visual rehabilitation and patient benefits.
The key visual outcome: patients achieved a marked improvement in visual acuity, with mean performance improving from approximately 0.12 decimal before surgery to about 0.27 decimal one year after implantation, representing a clinically significant functional gain in everyday life. This translated into clearly better reading abilities in daily activities, such as reading newspapers and other near tasks that are essential for maintaining independence.
Distinguished Participants
The event gathered leading Croatian ophthalmologists from several university hospitals.
Participants included Assist Prof. Igor Petriček, MD, PhD; Assist Prof. Krešimir Mandić, MD, PhD; Tomislav Kuzman, MD, PhD; and Ivan Škegro, MD, PhD from University Hospital Centre Zagreb; Prof. Biljana Kuzmanović Elabjer, MD, PhD, and Assist Prof. Damir Bosnar, MD, PhD from University Hospital Centre Sv. Duh; Dr. Robert Stanić from the University Hospital Centre Split, and Prof. Ratimir Lazić, MD, PhD - all attending as partners and trainees in improving visual rehabilitation for patients with advanced macular disease.
Surgical Demonstration at the Svjetlost Centre of Excellence
Professor Nikica Gabrić, MD, PhD, demonstrated the implantation of SING IMT lenses in three new patients, sharing his exceptional knowledge and experience with colleagues performing this demanding microsurgical procedure.
Svjetlost Clinic continues to build its role as a reference training center for SING IMT surgery, providing patients with the most advanced technology as well as the expertise necessary to restore functional vision and independence.
