An achievement worth celebrating. Congratulations!
Prof. Maja Bohač, MD, PhD, Head of the Refractive Surgery Department at Svjetlost Eye Clinic, has been appointed to the title of Titular Associate Professor at the School of Medicine, University of Rijeka. Her path in refractive surgery began under the mentorship of Prof. Nikica Gabrić, MD, PhD, and she further built her expertise through advanced training in London, Zurich, Barcelona, Cologne, and Strasbourg.
She earned her PhD in 2017 with a thesis comparing mechanical microkeratomes and femtosecond lasers, before being appointed Titular Assistant Professor in 2021 for her work on corneal refractive surgery.
This new title of Titular Associate Professor marks a natural continuation of that academic journey and a recognition of just how far Prof. Bohač's scientific and clinical work has been noticed.
Prof. Bohač has performed more than 30,000 laser procedures and has been a pioneer in the region; among the first to adopt femtosecond lasers, and the first in the region to perform lenticule extraction, the newest type of laser vision correction.
Her scientific contribution is further confirmed by 45 published papers indexed in Current Contents (CC), as well as memberships in leading international professional societies and an active role on the organizing committee of the Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (CSCRS), where she regularly lectures and trains colleagues.
The title of Titular Associate Professor is also a recognition of the broader contribution Prof. Bohač has made to the advancement of ophthalmology.
