Our doctors presented their experiences in the surgeries of cataract, laser corrections of diopter and installation of lenses to prevent reading or age diopters.
Lisbon, October 7th - 11th 2017 - Seven of our surgeons and the main OR nurse from the operation block of the Svjetlost Clinic participated at the most important meetings organized by the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons - ESCRS. The doctors of Svjetlost Clinic presented their experiences in the surgeries of cataract, laser corrections of diopter and installation of the so called "Presbyopia Correcting IOLs", that is, lenses used to prevent reading or age diopters.Prof. Iva Dekaris, medical director of the Svjetlost Clinic also held a workshop of cataract surgery where she presented this surgery and the basics of modern cataract surgery to young ophthalmologists.
Dr. Maja Bohač, the head of the Refractive Surgery Department, gave a talk about the methods of resolving LASTIK complications, and she also showed ways of correcting the eyesights on an uneven cornea. The research conducted by dr. Bohač with the assistance of other members of the Refractive Surgery Department of the Clinic Svjetlost in Zagreb has once again confirmed that refractive surgery is very safe and successful, with the level of complications of 0,03%, which can be solved if discovered on time. This is also supported by the data from the customer satisfaction survey conducted in the USA which show that the level of satisfaction in patients undergoing laser diopter correction is by far the biggest in comparison to all the other aestetic procedures. Dr. sc. Maja Bohač has performed over 14 thousand procedures of laser diopter correction utilizing all of the methods applied in the world, which makes her the leading surgeon for laser correction in this part of the world. In fact, in May 2017, the main world association of refractive surgeons - ISRS (International Society of Refractive Surgery) has nominated her as the world's refractive surgeon of the month.
Dr. Ante Barišić, the head of the Cataract Department, gave a talk in the organisation of the pharmaceutical company Johnson&Johnson for 120 ophthalmology surgeons from Eastern and Central Europe, North Africa and Middle East where he showed the results of the Svjetlost Clinic in the implanting of multifocal lenses and of lenses for widening eyesight range (Symfony) in patients suffering of cataract and patients that wish to eliminate their diopter.
In the regular part of the program, dr. Barišić also had a talk about the correction of diopted by implantation of a combination of Symfony lenses and of bifocal lenses. Svjetlost Clinic has been installing multifocal lenses since 2004 and in the previous period more than 6000 of these lenses have been implemented, which puts Clinic Svjetlost in the company of the world's leading eye clinics.
The ESCRS Meeting has been held for the 35th time with the participation of around ten thousand ophthalmologists from all around the world. European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons - ESCRS was founded in 1991 and has over 5000 members, who are ophthalmologists from more than 100 countries of the world.
