Prof. Ivana Mravičić, MD, PhD

Biography

Education

Professor Ivana Mravičić, MD, PhD, graduated from the University of Zagreb School of Medicine as a City of Zagreb scholarship recipient.

She completed her ophthalmology specialization at ‘Sveti Duh’ Clinical Hospital under the mentorship of Prof. Nikica Gabrić, MD, PhD and her subspecialization in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Special Hospital for Ophthalmology Svjetlost under the guidance of Prof. Oliver Ehrt, MD, PhD.

She furthered her education at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf on three occasions, one of which was as a DAAD scholarship recipient.

Professor Mravičić pursued advanced training at the LMU University Hospital in Munich twice, with one stay as an SOE scholarship recipient.

In her scientific education, Dr. Mravičić earned her master’s and doctoral degrees at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine.

She was appointed scientific associate, titular assistant professor, and professor at the University of Rijeka School of Medicine.

Professor Mravičić specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus.

She performs surgeries for all types of strabismus in children and adults: esotropia, exotropia, vertical strabismus, paralytic strabismus, oblique muscle surgeries, strabismus caused by thyroid disorders, strabismus resulting from injuries, fibrosis of extraocular muscles, and thyroid diseases.

Her area of interest is myopia control in children.

In addition to pediatric ophthalmology, she also performs oculoplastic surgery, including operations around the eyes (blepharoplasty, ptosis, entropion, ectropion, tumors with reconstruction). She has performed over 1,500 surgeries.

New Methods and Research

She introduced new surgical methods (nystagmus surgeries, vertical deviation surgeries, muscle transpositions, Y-splitting of muscles, muscle lengthening with bovine pericardium).

She has performed more than 1,000 strabismus surgeries.

She has a long-standing collaboration with Prof. Oliver Ehrt from the LMU Clinic in Munich, Germany.

Professor Ivana Mravičić, MD, PhD, was the principal investigator of an international clinical study on the use of cyclosporine in the treatment of severe vernal conjunctivitis in children, NOVA 2217 1mg/ml (2014).

She is also part of the scientific research team of the German company Rodenstock, researching glasses for myopia control in children.
