When is the best time for laser vision correction?
Dr. Ivan Gabrić, for Index.hr, reveals whether there is an ideal time of year for the procedure and how the recovery unfolds.
Laser vision correction is an excellent way for patients to become free of glasses and contact lenses. The procedure is simple and painless, recovery is short, and the return to daily activities is quick.
Nevertheless, a common dilemma for many patients is: is there a “right” time of year for the surgery, or is it better to wait for colder months and avoid summer, sun, and sea?
The answer is simpler than you think, as revealed by Dr. Ivan Gabrić.
Any time of year is good for laser vision correction
According to Dr. Ivan Gabrić, for Index.hr, there is no “bad” time for laser vision correction. The only truly important thing is to ensure a few days off for recovery after the procedure.
This experience comes from the long-standing practice of Svjetlost Clinic, whose team was the first in the region to perform laser vision correction and worked on the development of the laser used for the third generation of vision correction.
Recovery time after laser vision correction
Most patients return to their usual activities within just a few days after the procedure, depending on the method.
With the SmartSight method, the third generation of laser vision correction, swimming in the sea, sunbathing, and all usual summer activities are permitted after just 2-3 days. This means there is no need to postpone your annual leave or change your vacation plans due to the procedure.
Why summer is actually an excellent choice
Surprisingly, recovery during the summer months can even be more comfortable than in winter. The reason lies in air quality: in winter, we spend most of the day indoors, in heated rooms with dry air, which further dries out the eyes and can increase discomfort after the procedure. In summer, on the other hand, more time is spent outdoors, where the air is generally less dry, making recovery faster and more pleasant.
