The Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, held on 24 October 2015 its XI Annual Congress with international participation, which was attended by more than 300 ophthalmologists from Croatia and the region, as well as the lecturers from all over Europe and the United States. The most interesting part of the Congress was the Live surgery Symposium which was organized in cooperation with the Italian Congress Videocatarattarefrattiva, organized for over 30 years by Professor Lucio Buratto, founder and owner of the clinic Centro Ambrosiano Oftalmico (CAMO) in Milan, which has been the leading ophthalmic institution in Italy for over 30 years. In the last three years the Congress Videocatarattarefrattiva hosted the largest clinics from Barcelona, Berlin, Cologne, Padua, Prague, Rome, Istanbul, Cairo and Bucharest. However, only the clinic Svjetlost had been invited three times in a row due to its excellent performance, with an invitation the for next year, as well.The four top operators of the clinic Svjetlost led by prof. Nikica Gabrić, PhD had performed 5 complicated surgeries in just 60 minutes, while using state of the art technology confirming their "world class" performance and won the Best Live Surgery Award 2015" at the World Congress of Ophthalmology VideoCatarattaRefrattiva, competing with the best clinics in Milan, Cairo, Istanbul and Bucharest. After the Live surgery Symposium, the surgeries were transferred from the Special Hospital for Ophthalmology Svjetlost to the XI Congress of Croatian Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery, where surgeons from other Croatian institutions presented their skills.
On this occasion, the Foundation of prof. Ljiljana Zergollern, MD and Krešimir Čupak, granted recognitions for lifetime achievement to Prof. Nikica Gabrić, PhD and Prof. Branimir Cerovski, PhD and a cash award for the best presentation of young ophthalmologists to Fani Gilevska, PhD from Macedonia.
