41st ESCRS Congress in Vienna

Doctors from Svjetlost Clinic participated with 3 symposia, 3 invited lectures, an educational workshop, and 7 posters, through which they educated colleagues from around the world about the latest developments in ophthalmology.

This past weekend, the 41st Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) was held in Vienna.

This was the largest ophthalmology congress ever held, bringing together as many as 15,000 ophthalmologists from around the world to learn about the latest developments and results from leading global experts.

Once again this year, doctors from Svjetlost Clinic actively participated and delivered:

  • 3 symposia – Dr. Ivan Gabrić took part in two symposia on third-generation laser surgery: the Schwind ATOS, for which Svjetlost was the first user in Europe and only the second in the world, and the Johnson & Johnson Elita, for which he was the first doctor in Europe and continues to actively participate in the device’s development. This was followed by a symposium on the revolutionary new lens from the Italian company SIFI – EvoLux – where Dr. Gabrić presented experience with over 70 lenses implanted by Professor Nikica Gabrić.
  • 3 invited lectures – Assist. Prof. Dr. Sc. Maja Bohač gave a lecture on the results of lenticular surgery with the ATOS, and delivered a lecture for the World Society of Refractive Surgeons on currently available methods and the development of laser surgery. Dr. Ivan Gabrić gave an invited lecture on the results of a study on the stability of the new Johnson & Johnson Synergy Toric II lens.
  • 1 educational workshop – Dr. Adi Pašalić led a workshop teaching young colleagues the fundamentals of cataract surgery.
  • 7 posters presenting various observations and treatment results carried out at Svjetlost Clinic, among which we would especially highlight the first European results on functional vision after the SILK procedure, and the results of corneal treatment using the CorneaLUX method developed at Svjetlost Clinic.

With 14 invited presentations at the congress, 3 of which were in the highest category — symposia — doctors from Svjetlost Clinic educated a large number of colleagues about the future of ophthalmology that they encounter every day.
