Dr. Barišić presents clinical experience with lens implantation in Romania

Over the past 13 years, Svjetlost Eye Clinic has ranked among Europe’s leading eye clinics in terms of experience with the implantation of multifocal and extended-depth-of-focus lenses.

Sinaia, September 28–30, 2017 – Ante Barišić, MD, Head of the Cataract Department at Svjetlost Eye Clinic, participated as a guest speaker at the annual congress of the Romanian Society of Ophthalmology (Societatea Romana de Oftalmologie – S.R.O.), held in Sinaia from September 28 to 30, 2017.

Dr. Barišić presented Svjetlost’s results in correcting presbyopia through the implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses and extended-depth-of-focus lenses. Svjetlost surgeons in Croatia perform approximately 2,000 cataract surgeries each year, with as many as 30% involving the implantation of multifocal lenses or extended-depth-of-focus lenses. This high proportion of these technologically advanced lenses, which can eliminate patients’ dependence on glasses, places Svjetlost among Europe’s leading clinics in terms of experience with multifocal and extended-depth-of-focus lens implantation. For comparison, such lenses account for approximately 8% of all cataract surgeries in Germany and 2–3% in the Netherlands.

Svjetlost began implanting multifocal lenses as early as 2004, and in 2014 introduced the revolutionary Symfony extended-depth-of-focus lens. Before doing so, Svjetlost underwent a rigorous certification process, and after meeting stringent European standards, became one of just 14 European eye clinics selected to begin implanting the Symfony lens as part of a European multicenter study.

The Romanian Congress of Ophthalmology with international participation was held for the 14th time. It is the largest annual gathering of ophthalmologists organized by the national S.R.O. society, which has 994 ophthalmologists among its members.
