Famous Actor John Savage Also Regained His Sight at Svjetlost Eye Clinic

"What surprised me most was that I was operated on at noon, and by evening I could already read a new script... Incredible!"

John Savage (73), who has appeared in more than 200 Hollywood productions, decided to use the break between filming two movies to permanently resolve his vision problem at Svjetlost Eye Clinic in Zagreb.

“I’ve always had excellent vision — even before the surgery I could see perfectly at a distance, but since I turned 45 I’ve struggled with reading. They call it reading vision impairment; I call it a curse. I always carried several pairs of reading glasses to set because if I couldn’t read the script or a change, everyone had to stop… It caused me a lot of frustration. I saw that my great friend Armand Assante had his eyes operated on by Nikica — he told me it was great, so I came too. Of course, it helped that my colleagues Tim Roth, Franco Nero, and my friend Cassandra Gava had also had it done in Zagreb. What surprised me most was that I was operated on at noon, and by evening I could already read a new script… Incredible!” said John Savage.

John Savage is best known for his leading role as Private Bukowski in Miloš Forman’s Vietnam War film Hair, starred alongside Robert De Niro in The Deer Hunter, and with Al Pacino in The Godfather Part III, and also worked with the great director Oliver Stone on the film The Onion Field. In addition to his roles on the big screen, he has appeared in numerous television productions — Dark Angel, The X-Files, Star Trek, and Twin Peaks.

John Savage, Esai Morales, Tim Roth, Franco Nero, Cassandra Gava, Armand Assante, and the late Ivana Trump have all chosen Professor Nikica Gabrić and Svjetlost Eye Clinic for their eye surgery.

Svjetlost is the world’s leading ophthalmology institution by the number of implanted lenses for correcting reading vision, as well as in the application of new technologies in ophthalmology. This has earned it recognition not only among patients in Croatia but around the entire world.

“All these famous people chose Svjetlost of their own free will – they came here and saw our technology, but also our passion. Anyone can buy technology, but sitting across from a doctor who performs the procedure and who has undergone the procedure himself – that’s a real trust, one that’s evident when actors travel here from the other side of the world. I’m very proud that we’ve put Svjetlost and Zagreb on the map as a destination for top-tier medicine,” said Professor Nikica Gabrić, founder of Svjetlost Clinic, on this occasion.

For more than 24 years, Svjetlost has been the leading ophthalmology institution in the application of the most advanced technologies, as well as in its ability to attract patients from all over the world through the quality of its work. Beyond patients, major players in the medical industry have also recognized Svjetlost as a world leader in development and innovation, which is why it has been chosen as a development center for Johnson & Johnson in the field of intraocular lenses and vision correction lasers, as well as for the German company Eye Tech Solutions Schwind in the development of new generations of lasers. Croatia has become a development and innovation center for ophthalmology precisely on the strength of Professor Gabrić’s quality and dedication, along with that of his team.
