Three-Day Complex Strabismus Surgery Programme Successfully Completed

From 21 to 23 October, Svjetlost Eye Clinic carried out an exceptional three-day programme of strabismus surgeries. The operations were performed together with Prof. Oliver Ehrt, MD, continuing the long-standing collaboration between Svjetlost Eye Clinic and LMU Klinikum in Munich. Prof. Ehrt is Head of the Department of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at LMU Klinikum and President of the European Strabismological Association (ESA).

Over the three days, the team performed a series of highly complex procedures. Because of their complexity, these procedures are done at only a handful of highly specialised centres worldwide.

They included:

• surgery for fibrosis of the eye muscles with bovine pericardium implantation
• surgery for congenital eye movement disorders (Brown syndrome)
• surgery tailored to patients following head trauma
• strabismus surgery in patients with high myopia
• reoperations in patients who had already undergone multiple surgeries

With this programme, Svjetlost Eye Clinic has once again confirmed that its team, led by Prof. Ivana Mravičić, MD, PhD, provides strabismus care on a par with the world’s leading centres.

The programme was led by Prof. Ivana Mravičić, MD, PhD, Head of the Division of Paediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Svjetlost Eye Clinic. She specialises in the surgical treatment of various forms of strabismus in children and adults. She has performed more than 1,000 strabismus surgeries, and her long-standing collaboration with Prof. Oliver Ehrt helps develop and apply advanced surgical methods for treating even the most demanding cases.
